Letter: Boycott feds too over Arizona's SB 1070
The furor over our new immigration law (SB 1070) is based on uninformed emotions not facts. The state law explicitly states "cooperative enforcement of federal law." So it would seem logical for those boycotting Arizona also to boycott the federal government by refusing to take Social Security checks, welfare checks, and to refuse to pay taxes.
The federal law (Title 8 USC 1424-1325) appears to be more restrictive than the Arizona law, so why is Arizona law called "misguided" by our president? Re-election politics, perhaps. Worse, Mexico's president decries our law but makes no mention of the fact that Mexican immigration law is considerably more restrictive than our federal law. For example, Mexico has only one legal language, no welfare or health care for foreigners, and immigrants must be financially able and physically and mentally healthy.
'Tis a puzzlement!
