Prescott Valley police arrested a man Saturday on charges including child molestation after the girl's father learned a family member saw inappropriate sexual texts sent to the girl on the man's phone, a spokesman said.
Officers booked Ethan Cook, 20, of Prescott Valley into Camp Verde jail on charges of three counts of child molestation, four counts of sexual abuse and one count of luring a minor for sexual exploitation.
At 3 p.m., officers answered a call by the 14-year-old victim's father about possible child molestation, said Sgt. Brandon Bonney, spokesman for the Prescott Valley Police Department.
The father told officers the victim told him that Cook, an adult known to her, had sent her text messages involving sexual acts and had touched her inappropriately on several times, Bonney said.
"When detectives spoke with Cook, he admitted to touching the girl on several occasions and sending vulgar texts," Bonney said.
The Prescott Valley police would like to remind the public to monitor the text messages that your children send and receive. Listen carefully to what your children say and talk with them about appropriate and inappropriate behavior and messages.
If you learn of inappropriate messages or behavior, share that information with your local police department so officers can investigate, Bonney said.
