Fains offer land for community garden
The Fain Signature Group is donating vacant land behind the Albertsons store for a proposed community garden.
The developer is donating land to help feed hungry families and seniors during the continuing recession, according to Lew Rees, marketing and public relations director for Fain Signature Group. The garden will cover a half-acre to three-fourths of an acre.
Fain also is offering family garden plots in addition to the community garden. Fain will create space as well for organizations that want to grow gardens for children.
Prescott Area Leadership in turn will spearhead creation of the community garden, said Aalt Brouwer, a member of its board of directors.
"One of the important things we want to do is bring people together because it is a lot of fun to get your hands dirty when you are making a difference," said Brouwer, a business consultant who lives in the unincorporated Prescott area. He said Prescott Area Leadership, a training program, began a community garden a year ago at the YMCA property on Whipple Street in Prescott.
