Winds factor in Dewey blaze Sunday
DEWEY-HUMBOLDT - Area firefighters battled a home fire Sunday afternoon in the 200 block of North Outback Road off Highway 169, with high winds keeping them on their toes.
The single-story, 1,200-square-foot residence was fully involved when four fire engines and three water tenders arrived at about 4:30 p.m., said Jay Fillingim, a battalion chief for Prescott Fire.
No one was inside the home, according to initial reports, and no other structures were threatened.
The firefighting efforts were completely defensive, Fillingim said, adding that a Forest Service crew also was on the scene. "The winds are a concern," Fillingim said. "A fire can easily spread."
He said some power lines also were down.
Central Yavapai Fire was the lead agency on the blaze, but its crews and battalion chief were not available at press time.
