Prescott City Councilman Jim Lamerson was back at City Hall Thursday after undergoing surgery on a back fracture this past week.
Lamerson, who suffers from multiple sclerosis (MS), said he lost his balance at his home this past Tuesday night after the regular City Council meeting. "That happens with MS," Lamerson said of the loss of balance.
"Because of my inability to reconcile the fact that I have a disabling condition, I did not use my cane when I was getting up," Lamerson said Thursday. "I fell and broke my back."
That led to a visit to the emergency room at Yavapai Regional Medical Center late Tuesday night, during which Lamerson discovered that he had fractured a vertebra in his back.
Lamerson said his doctor recommended surgery, which took place his past Friday. The surgery used a bonding material to repair the separation in the vertebra, he added.
Afterwards, "I was able to walk out, with help," Lamerson said, noting that he was home by Friday evening.
