Cañon School teachers became four of Disney's "One Million Volunteers" by giving their time to the Heritage Park Zoological Sanctuary in Prescott as part of the Retiree Connection's "Animal care, kitchen and enclosure maintenance and cleaning, zoo tours, facilities," program recently.

Teachers Trinka Hall, Jessica Smith, Jake Byrd, and Maddy Bennett spent the day working under the direction of park employee, Jake Byrd.

The volunteers did  spring cleaning under the watchful eyes of peacocks, monkeys, emus, a mountain lion and a tiger, among other zoo residents.

Disney rewarded volunteers with a  pass to Disneyland or Walt Disney World for their efforts.

"Your day of service has become part of the civic footprint that is producing positive change in your community. Thank you for making a difference," stated a letter from the HandsOn Network, which sponsored the day. "On behalf of HandsOn Network, its affiliates and partner organizations we want to thank you for volunteering and being part of the 'Give a Day. Get a Disney Day' program. Enjoy your Disney Day. You've earned it!"
