Prescott Fire Department Chief Bruce Martinez accepted a check for $615 from Laura Davis, marketing manager for Pepsi, for the Prescott Firefighters Charities.

"I was very surprised that much was donated," said Kristi Gagnon, fire inspector with the Prescott Fire Department and director of Prescott Firefighters Charities.

The check included donations made by grocery store customers at displays promoting the Prescott Fire Department's 125th Anniversary Celebration earlier this month inside local Safeway, Fry's, Albertson's and Wal-Mart stores, Gagnon said.

The donation will go into the two-year-old charity's general fund and be used to help people in the community, Gagnon said.
