Matt's un-mats pets' fur and pampers pooches
For some pets, the first visit to a groomer is as stressful as a child's first day at school.
Matt and Lisa McCall do their best to make the new experience as relaxing and fun as they can at At Matt's Pet Grooming, 1044 Whipple St. in Prescott, behind Prescott True Value near Gail Gardner Way.
"You can see the bounce in their step when they leave," he said. "It makes me feel good."
The McCalls opened their pet grooming business in early June 2009, where they do everything from bathing to haircuts for dogs.
Besides baths, Matt said Lisa and groomer Rachel Walters will trim a pet's coat, brush its teeth, clip and paint nails and add a little cologne or perfume to a pooch.
"Any animal - nothing too big, nothing too small, we can do it all," she said.
Matt got into pet grooming 10 years ago, and he said he enjoys seeing pets and their owners leave with smiles on their faces, especially those who are visiting him for the first time.
As people walk in with their dogs, Matt, Lisa or Rachel greet them and escort the pets to the back of the building, where one of them gives the animal a bath, a short blow-drying of their coat and a trim of their fur or more if the owner requests it.
The shampoo and conditioner and brushes they use are also available for people to buy, Lisa said.
"We sell the products that we use," she said.
If a pet owner has a special shampoo, Matt said they will use that to clean the dog.
Prices vary depending on what services the owner wants for his dog and its size.
And grooming services are not limited to dogs, Lisa said.
Matt said he and his staff members also groom guinea pigs, rabbits, ferrets and cats.
The business is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and with an appointment.
