Animal Disaster Services pushes pet safety

Animal Disaster Services (ADS) reminds everyone not to leave home without their family pets in the event of emergency evacuations, such as wildfires or flooding.

Whenever there is an evacuation in Yavapai County, ADS will set up an animal shelter, usually near a Red Cross shelter. People should listen to radio to find out where the shelter is.

Disasters are common in Arizona, so it is important to have emergency plans and preparedness kits ready in a prominent spot in case of evacuation. Residents should be ready when it is necessary to leave home with little or no time to gather important items.

For a brochure listing evacuation kit guidelines for humans and pets, write to Animal Disaster Services c/o United Animal Friends, P.O. Box 11133, Prescott, AZ 86304.

ADS is a local volunteer group that works in conjunction with Yavapai County Emergency Services in setting up free, temporary shelters with 24-hour care for many types of animals.
