Anniversary News: Blacks celebrate 60th anniversary
Bill and Joyce Black will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on June 17. They met at UCLA in 1948 and were married on June 17, 1950, at First Christian Church in North Hollywood, Calif. Shortly thereafter Bill was sent to serve in the Korean War and later in Vietnam.
Bill retired from the Army as a colonel in 1975. After that, he earned his doctorate in 1983 in education administration at NAU and went on to a career as a professor and a college administrator. In addition to being a homemaker and mother, Joyce completed her master's degree at NAU in 1983 and became a speech therapist. Bill and Joyce have lived in many countries around the world including Germany, Taiwan, England and Kenya.
After his second retirement, Bill and Joyce moved to Prescott in 1994. They enjoy serving their community through various organizations, such as SCORE and their local church, First Church of the Nazarene.
They have five children, Lieutenant General Scott Black and wife Kim (U.S. Army (retired), now VP, BAE Systems, Inc., Washington, D.C.), Christy Via and husband Mike (State Department, assignments all over the world), Michele Cardone and husband Jerry (CCRN in Pennsylvania), Melody Black (teacher in Prescott Valley), and Holly Isaacs (CNA in Reno, Nev.).
They are blessed with 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
