Julie Pettit Price

Julie was born May 25, 1946, at Niagara Falls Memorial Hospital and died April 29, 2010, in Prescott Valley, Ariz., following two years of intense and courageous struggle with cancer.

Julie was the only daughter of Elizabeth F. Tucker and Earle M. Pettit. She was a 1964 graduate of Niagara Falls (NY) High School and received her bachelor's degree in Sociology at University of Buffalo in 1968. After college, she began a 33-year career with the U.S. military recreation system; her first assignment was Long Binh, S. Vietnam - during the war. She later served two separate tours in South Korea, managing various recreation programs at several U.S. Army posts, including camps Casey, Howze and Red Cloud. She later lived in beautiful Hawaii, managing programs for the U.S. Marine Corps at Kaneoue Bay and the U.S. Air Force at Hickam AFB. Prior to her 2003 retirement from federal service, she worked in Heidelberg, Germany, directing fitness programs for the U.S. Army in Europe.

Julie remained very active in retirement in Prescott Valley, Ariz., volunteering with the Yavapai Food Bank, Habitat for Humanity and several charitable programs. She also enjoyed working backstage for community center concerts and events, kayaking in northern Arizona with her many friends, and playing the washtub bass in a local band.

Julie's rich and rewarding time with us was full of wonderful world travels and great adventures. Throughout her life, she handled her many challenges and victories with style. She was a deeply caring person who gave freely of her talents and kindness, collecting many lasting and loyal friends along the way. She was also an amazing personality with the greatest sense of humor and love for others and will be greatly missed by her family and everyone in the world whose lives she touched.

Julie is survived by brothers, Mark Pettit (Diana) of Tucson, Ariz., Jonathan Pettit (Ann) of Perry, N.Y., and Robert Witko of Niagara Falls; as well as stepson, David Price, Jr. of Mahwah, N.J.; and stepdaughter, Kendra Neal of Georgia. Julie was predeceased by both parents and a younger brother, James Witko.
