Obituary: Katherine Ann Sipes

Katherine Ann (Conley) Sipes, 75, while surrounded by family, went home to the Lord, Saturday, July 24, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer.

Kathy was born on March 20, 1935, in Los Angeles, Calif. At the age of 3 months, she moved to Phoenix, Ariz. Kathy attended Baltz School. At the age of 6, she sold $500 worth of war bonds and played the accordion and piano entertaining the U.S. soldiers during WWII. Kathy also played for Arizona governors McFarland and Osborne. As a youngster, Kathy was the mascot for the famous women's softball team, the A-1 Queens. She also attended Phoenix Union High School.

On Dec. 9, 1961, Kathy married Robert Sipes and they made their home in the Bagdad/Hillside area. Kathy was a member of the Hillside Bible Church. In 1995, Kathy and Robert retired to Juniper Woods Estates in the Ash Fork area.

In addition to being an accomplished musician, Kathy was an avid reader and enjoyed music and dancing. Kathy also enjoyed canning fruits and vegetables, quilting and sewing. Kathy was a recognized artist known for her drawings and oil paintings particularly of wildlife. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Robert Sipes; daughters, Dana Marie McKeever (John) of Forest Lakes and Lisa Lea Hawkins of Dover, N.H.; seven grandchildren Michelle Jodi, Robert McKeever (Stephanie) of Williams, Katy, Trina Cooper (Grant) of Forest Lakes, Donna Chris and Keith David; 14 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson; brother, William T. Conley of Phoenix; niece Mary Louise Conley of Anaheim, Calif.; and very special friends, Richard and Suzanne Hernandez of Wilhoit and Ms. Gail Rippeto of Flagstaff.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Conley; son Jerry (Ab) Sipes; and brother William Hunter.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at Chino Valley Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010.
