50th Anniversary: Dave and Darlene Maggard

Dave and Darlene Maggard of Prescott, Ariz., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary July 24, 2010. Their children and grandchildren will host a reception in their honor from 7 to 9 p.m. July 24 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1101 Sandretto Drive in Prescott.

Darlene was born and raised in Phoenix, Ariz., and Dave was born in Jenkins, Ky., later moving to Arizona with his family in 1957. The couple met at a Woolworth's store where Darlene worked at the candy counter. Dave quickly gained a sweet tooth for Darlene as they began their courtship. They were married in Novato, Calif., on July 24, 1960. They resided in Glendale and Phoenix in their early married years. They moved to Prescott in 1972 where they still reside. Darlene spent many years serving with hospice and later worked for the Prescott Unified School District in special education, retiring in 2006. Dave worked for Yavapai County in the Planning and Zoning Department for many years, retiring in 2002.

They have been blessed with five children, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; Debbie and her husband Denzlo Hancock of Saint David, Ariz., with their six children, Dustin Hancock and his wife Meagan and their daughter Mikayla, DawnSheree and her husband Steven Lunt and their sons, Garth and Colt, Deja and her husband Josh Tracey, Deidre, David and Dillon Hancock; the late Jim Maggard who passed away from leukemia Feb. 2, 1985; Delana and her husband Brad Woods of Dewey, Ariz., with their two sons, Taylor and Trenton Woods; Danielle and her husband Garrett Nelson of Hot Springs, Ark., with their two sons, Kody and Jacob Nelson; and Derick and Cheryl Maggard of Provo, Utah, with their son, Lincoln Maggard.

Although they have accomplished much and have been successful in life, traveling as far as Alaska and Argentina, their greatest joy and accomplishment is their family. Their favorite thing to do is spend time with their children and grandchildren.
