Letter: Help Lions help others via recycling program
My name is Callie Ochsner and I am going to be a senior at Prescott High School. I recently traveled to the Czech Republic on a travel scholarship paid for by the Prescott Sunrise Lions Club. I was in the country for two weeks and during my trip I stayed with two families of local high school students.
I had a phenomenal experience - visiting beautiful historic sites, seeing the countryside - but most of all I enjoyed experiencing the social setting and being completely immersed in the culture and lifestyle of the Czech people. I believe this opportunity changed my life and opened my eyes to the fact that despite many apparent differences between people all over the world, we are all essentially and morally the same.
I want to thank the Sunrise Lions Club for this wonderful opportunity and the awesome memories that accompanied it. The Lions Club is so active in Prescott and the surrounding area, and I think that more people should be aware of that. All of their projects create positive change in the community.
Because of this organization's potential for benefiting our city and our area, I would like to encourage residents of the area to deposit their old newspapers in the bins that the Sunrise Lions Club provides around town for this purpose. Every week, the club meets and sorts papers and recycles them, generating revenue that the club can then use for projects and programs, such as the Czech Republic travel scholarship opportunity. By making an effort to keep these profits local, as opposed to sending recycling to other areas, residents will benefit by the amazing things this club can accomplish.
