Cañon Summer School to begin

Cañon has a Summer Sport Camp from June 29 - July 15. The Open Gym continues through the summer.

BCC Meals on Wheels needs van driver

Water District positions open

Two positions on the Black Canyon City Water Improvement District Board in Black Canyon City will be on the November ballot. The positions of board chair currently held by Bob Marley and board member-at-large Harry Putnam will be up for election.

Candidates must submit a completed packet to Yavapai County between July 5 and Aug. 4. Packets will be available at the BCCWID office or at the Elections Department in Prescott during the month of June. Interested citizens can contact the BCCWID at 623-374-9408 for more information.

Community Assoc. to meet Thursday

The next Cordes Lakes Community Association General Meeting will take place on Thursday, July 8, at the Center, 16357 S. Cordes Lakes Drive. The meeting starts at 7 p.m. A vote will be taken to allow or not allow a Beer Garden for Cordes Lakes Daze to be held in the fall. Be sure to attend to cast your vote. If unable to attend and you are a member in good standing of the CLCA and want to vote contact Kimila at 713-3782.

Ice Cream Social on July 24

An Ice Cream Social will take place at the Cordes Lakes Community Center on July 24, from 1-3 p.m. The Social will feature banana splits, root beer floats, sundaes, and the ever popular ice-cream brownie. Prices vary per selection.

Cordes Exercise class

The Cordes Lakes Exercise Class takes place on Wednesdays and Fridays, now at 7 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Call Kimila, 713-3782, for information.

TOPS Club Cordes

TOPS will follow the exercise class on Fridays at 8:15 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center.

Kids Summer Reading Program

The theme for the Summer Reading Program at the library is "Make a Splash at Your Library." You can sign up any time and get details of the program. And be sure to sign up for the free computer classes.

Library has resource directory

New at the library is a Community Resource Directory developed by the Friends of the Library. It lists churches, food services, organizations, and many other resources available to the community. You can look up information in the library's copy, or use the copy services at the library to make a copy for yourself.

AA, Al-Anon meet in Cordes Lakes

Alcoholic Anonymous and Al-Anon Women's Meeting is every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Southern Baptist Church Cordes Lakes. The first Wednesday of each month will be Step and Tradition Study. Call Len 632-9064 for more details.

Get a raffle ticket for a Baja cruise

Raffle tickets for the Cordes Cruiser's November Baja Cruise are on sale. Anyone can buy a raffle ticket for this cruise from any CLCA member. Tickets are $5 and provide an inside cabin for two. Contact Pat Williamson 632-8965 for the cruise information and Bill Slankard 632-9473 for raffle tickets. Cruise tickets to go cruising with the group also will be available for purchase.

KASTOFF program begins again

The KASTOFF Program has restarted with a new innovation. The knit scarves are still being made for winter, but for the summer head bands and helmet head-toppers are being created from camo fabric and filled with an agent that remains cool when wet. To learn more, contact the library at 632-5492.

Hiking Club

Cordes Lakes Hiking Club meets the first Monday of the month at the Cordes Lakes Community Center, 16357 S. Cordes Lakes Drive, at 8 a.m. Because of the warmer weather, the hikes will start earlier. Call Bill Slankard 632-9473 for the location of the next hike. Carpools will drive from the Center to the hike location. No registration necessary, just meet in the parking lot.

Third Thursday Fun takes a break

Fun Night in Cordes Lakes is on break for the summer. The Fun Night will resume in the fall.

Reaching Out in Love Ministry

Reaching Out in Love Ministry offers a help- ing hand to those in need of clothing, shoes, and other items, at no charge. If you would like to help, stop in with your donation of cash or gently used clothing. The ministry will be open July 23 and 24, and July 30 and 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Location is 14720 S. Stagecoach Trail in Cordes Junction in the mobile at the Extra Self Storage.

Cordes Lakes Food programs

There are four food programs in Cordes Lakes. Value Club is the second Wednesday and is payable at the Library the previous Friday. The 60-plus program (age and income restricted) is also on the second Wednesday. Commodities are on the third Wednesday, with produce on the fourth.

Tuesday Club open to new members

The Tuesday Club hosts many events in the community to raise money to maintain the community center and pay for other worthy projects such as the baseball field, lake improvements and repair, etc. This is an open group with no dues or formal membership; anyone can submit ideas for new events and projects. Please join us on Tuesday mornings at 9 at the Cordes Lakes Community Center.

Drop off brush on third Saturdays

The Brush Yard, located on Fremont (west of Brahma and east of Cordes Lakes Drive), will be open on the third Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Remember, this is NOT a trash dump, just burnable brush. This is IN Cordes Lakes for Cordes Lakes residents only, and you will be asked for your name and address, as a count of users is being kept.

If you are unable to make it on the available day and hours, contact Ron Giguere at 632-7552 to make an appointment to drop off your brush.

Christmas in July to benefit food pantry

Cordes Lakes Cora is having Christmas in July! The St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry needs your help. Now through July 24, donate at least $5 worth of non-perishable food items including toilet paper, toothpaste and brushes. Merchandise must be accompanied by a store receipt. Items from home or expired items will not be accepted. For each $5 donation your name will be entered into a free drawing to win one of the following prizes: a $100 VISA card, an Arcosanti bell, a gift certificate from 50's Backseat Diner, or a $25 Costco gift card.

This is a benefit for the local St. Vincent de Paul's Food Pantry, sponsored by the B. Alan Hair Design Studio in Cordes Lakes. It's all about people helping people. Drop off items Wednesday through Saturday after 9 a.m. For information call 928-632-9394.

Justice candidates to speak at Chamber

Mayer Elders Club events and news

Mayer Elder's Club will have a turn around trip to Mazatzal Casino in Payson on Thursday, July 15. The cost is $10 payable when signing the sheet which is on the bulletin board. Received will be a $10 or $20 casino money reimbursement upon arrival to the Casino. 

You will receive an extra $10 if it is your birthday month. Be sure to bring current photo ID plus another form of ID. The bus will leave from the Mayer Elder's Center at 7:30 a.m. Get a Scratch Ticket when you leave the Casino for the next time you return. There are 400 slots (starting at 1 cent), card games and a 10 percent senior discount at the Gift Shop and Restaurant & Grill. Complimentary soda, coffee, tea all day. Boarding for the return trip will be at 3 p.m. and the bus returns to the Mayer Elder's Center at 5 p.m. For more information, contact Beth at 237-9123.

The Hospice of the Pines Loss Support Group meets at the Mayer Elder's Center each Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. Come and enjoy lunch at 11:30 a.m. provided by Meals on Wheels. Please join us if you've lost someone either recently or years ago, or if you are a full time caregiver.   

Every Thursday afternoon, a beading class takes place at the Mayer Senior Center. Classes are taught by Myrna Bouchey and cost $3, which includes supplies. Beading is done from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and we enjoy lunch at the Center.

Boots 'n Spurs Saddle Club

Boots N' Spurs Saddle Club, meets the 3rd Thursday of each month in Dewey at Guido's Pizza, 6 p.m.  All ages welcome and you do not have to own a horse to be in the club.  Membership $7 individual, $15 family per year. 

Gymkhana event, with Barrels, Poles, and a Fun event will take place Saturday, Aug. 7.  Sign ins at 9 - 10:30 a.m.  No late entries please! Cost $3 per rider per event for club members or $5 per rider non-members.  Event starts at 11 a.m. with a cash Jackpot. Time only runs start at 9 a.m. Cost $2 per run.

Program helps child care providers

Buena Vista Children's Services, Inc. recruits and helps certify professional childcare providers for the Yavapai County area and is now seeking people interested in becoming provides in their own homes.

Buena Vista helps people become a Department of Economic Security (DES) Certified Child-Care providers, everything from the required fingerprints to home inspections.

Applications are processed at no charge. A "Professional Certified Child Care Provider" allows people to work in their own home caring for as many as four children. Providers receive compensation, and their name is listed with Child Care Resource & Referral and other local Arizona DES offices for referrals.

Buena Vista Children's Services, Inc. does not provide licensing with Arizona Department of Health Services, but rather assists providers through the certification process for DES.

Extension plans Plant, Yard Sale

The University of Arizona, Yavapai County Master Gardener Association announces its third annual Monsoon Madness plant and yard sale on July 10 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the old rodeo grounds, 840 Rodeo Drive in Prescott.

A wide variety of plants, garden tools, pots, and garden art will be available for sale. There will also be gardening and planting advice from area expert master gardeners. Tool and knife sharpening also will be provided. All sales are cash only.
