J. Don McGaffee, age 77, passed away on June 21, 2010, in Prescott, Ariz. He was born on July 8, 1932, in Des Moines, Iowa.
Don went to East High School in Des Moines and later graduated from Drake University. He joined the Army during the Korean War. After the military, he moved to Phoenix and became the owner of Phoenix Vegetable Distributors. Don retired and moved to Prescott in 1999. During his career, Don was on the board of the Western Growers Association, was one-time president of the Vegetable Growers Association of Arizona and was nominated to the Arizona Farming & Ranching Hall of Fame in 2008. He also served on the board of the Arizona Skeet Shooting Association. His passions were clay target shooting, Verde Vaqueros, and horse racing; he was a member of the Sports Car Club of America, and he was also a member of the Scottsdale Posse.
Don is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jean McGaffee; and his son, David McGaffee, both of Prescott, Ariz.
A service for Don will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the American Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive, Prescott.
