Vandals break into Miller Valley Elementary School
Students returned to Miller Valley Elementary School after the Christmas holiday to find that someone burglarized and vandalized their school during the Jan. 2-3 weekend.
According to school officials, on Saturday morning, a custodian informed Principal Jeff Lane that a music room door was open.
When Lane arrived at the school, he and the custodian found the vandals had trashed the music room, pouring paint on the floor and on some of the keyboards. In other rooms, it appeared that the vandals threw papers around and poured soda pop on them.
The vandals also took Lane's laptop.
Lane notified the Prescott Police Department.
Police officers conducted a search and found no one in the school. The officers cleared the building at about 4 p.m.
It appears the vandals entered the school through a small window in the office. Prescott School District Facilities Director Jay Collier secured the window.
On Monday morning, Lane asked his teachers to check their rooms to determine if anything else was missing.
The Prescott Police Department is continuing to investigate the incident.
