Morning fire kills two in Prescott Valley home

UPDATE, 2:01 p.m.:Central Yavapai firefighters continue to investigate two deaths after they put out a suspicious fire that engulfed a Prescott Valley home early Wednesday morning.Central Yavapai firefighters responded to the blaze in the 4200 block of Kearny Drive at 6:19 a.m. after a neighbor called in about the fire, said Charlie Cook, spokesman for the Central Yavapai Fire District.Central Yavapai firefighters with the help of Prescott firefighters put the fire out in 10 minutes, Cook said.After extinguishing the fire, investigators found two dead bodies in the rubble, said Sgt. Brandon Bonney, spokesman for the Prescott Valley Police Department.Police and fire crews have not been able to identify yet the age, gender or identity of the bodies found in separate bedrooms of the home, Cook said.Prescott Valley Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Fire's arson squad remain at the home awaiting a judge's signature on a search warrant to investigate further into the cause of the deaths and the fire, Cook said.The judge got to the bench at 12:30 p.m. today so police and the arson squad expect to receive the signed search warrant soon, Cook said.The fire caused severe heat and smoke damage throughout the home and heavy damage to one bedroom. It appears fire damaged about 20 percent of the home, but crews don't have an estimate on the value of the damage yet, Cook said."We don't know the cause of the fire at this point," Cook said. "When we have a situation like this where we find a body, we call the Prescott Valley Police Department in to handle the crime scene.""We're treating the fire as suspicious since two people lost their lives in the fire," Bonney said.
