Obituary: Walter E. Hesketh

Dearly beloved husband and father Walter E. Hesketh, died peacefully on Dec. 11, 2010 at Rose Lane Adult Care Home in Prescott. He was the loving husband of Myrtle with whom he shared 76 years of marriage. He was born May 1, 1911 in Rhode Island, the son of the late Henry and Catherine Hesketh.

Walter was a sheet metal worker employed by the U.S. Navy, where he worked at various shipyards including Quincy, Mass., Philadelphia, Pa. and Bremerton, Wash. Amongst his extreme dedication to the Navy, he was also a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve.

During World War II, he was a quality control officer at the Newport Rhode Island Torpedo Station. The U.S. Government deemed this a civilian position necessary for the war effort. After WWII, Walter worked for private contractors in the Pawtucket, R.I. area. Walter and Myrtle moved to Prescott, Ariz. in 2003 to continue his retirement. Walter was a past master of Unity Lodge, order of Free and Accepted Masons in Rhode Island, and was a current member of the Aztlan Lodge, Prescott Community Church, former member of Sayles Memorial Church in Lincoln, R.I. and Chapel Four Corners Church in Cumberland, R.I. Walter also enjoyed playing ten pin bowling, gardening and was an accomplished artist who worked with stained glass and copper.

In addition to his wife, Walter is survived by his daughter Karen Thiel of Prescott Valley; several nieces and a nephews; friends; and relatives. He was the brother of the late Harry I. Hesketh, Jack Hesketh and Lillian Smith.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010 followed by Christian and Masonic Funeral service at Heritage Memory Mortuary, 131 Grove Ave., Prescott.

Graveside services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Shriners Hospital c/o El Zaribah Shrine Temple, 552 North 40th St. Phoenix, AZ 85008 or Prescott Community Church, 3151 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, AZ 86301.
