Letter: Regional development will help us recover

Is regional economic development as elusive as safe yield? The decline of a very strong economy has led to a crisis in our local economic development. What are we faced with if we do not have regional economic development cooperation and partnership?

Job creation is critical to the long-term economic health of our area and plays a major role in pulling Yavapai County out of its current recession. What is needed is a more effective process to determine the best policies to boost area employment and create jobs. Let's bring together the best business and economic policy people and come up with a comprehensive package that will help put people back to work and get our economy moving again.

Yavapai County Contractors Association feels we should focus our efforts on building the future and that we must support the concept of cooperative regional economic development. We must join forces - it is no longer Prescott or Prescott Valley or Chino Valley. We are no longer defined by our community boundaries. Regional economic development is the center of survival for us. Without it, we cannot develop a vision that will drive new jobs, new industries, new markets and small businesses to our area.

Regional economic development must be a priority and must be on the front burner even in the good economic times. We need to work together to improve the health of our region, and that will give us the quality of life we all want.
