Darl Jodie Johnson

Darl Jodie Johnson passed away on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, the day after his 72nd birthday. A true Prescottonian, Darl was born on Dec. 3, 1938, in Prescott as the ninth child in a family of 10.

He was raised in Prescott and graduated from Prescott High School. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Darl served a mission to the east central states, spending most of his time in Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. Shortly after returning home, he was set up on a blind date with his future bride, Janath Flake, and they were married in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Darl spent his days in the reflection of his Master, serving those around him continually, both in his personal and professional life. He was known for his faithful church service actively serving in many positions at the ward and stake level. Professionally, Darl was a real estate broker and owned Big Johnson Realty, which became a Prescott icon, with a 20-foot cowboy placed outside his office. His carefree and positive attitude towards life combined with his faith and love for his Savior assisted Darl throughout the last 20 years as he suffered through many physical trials until the end.

Darl is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janath Flake Johnson; sons Bert Johnson and Jodie Johnson; daughter Ginger Kistner; sisters Dorothy Brimhall, Mertice Berry and Bertie Trone; and 16 grandchildren. A viewing will be at the Prescott Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1001 Ruth St., Prescott, Ariz., on Dec. 13, 2010, at noon. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Darl will be interred following the service at the Pioneers Home Cemetery in Prescott. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Johnson Family Mission Fund.
