Yavapai College Music Department set to dazzle
The Yavapai College Music Department will present a Christmas concert featuring three instrumental ensembles at 3 p.m. on Dec. 5 and "An Evening of Jazz" at 7 p.m. on Dec. 6 in the YC Performance Hall.
The Christmas concert will begin with three well-known seasonal tunes performed by the Beginning Concert Band, under the direction of Gary Flowers. Then the Symphony Band, conducted by Roy Breiling, will perform six selections, including a "Christmas Winds Overture," by Douglas Wagner, and "Midnight Sleighride," from Prokoviev's "Lieutenant Kije Suite."
During intermission, a quartet will play "Jingle Jazz," arranged for four saxophones by Ed Jones.
The college's two Big Bands, both directed by Breiling, will ring in the season Monday evening.
The Roughriders Big Band will begin the merriment with a jazz arrangement of six all-time Christmas favorites, and feature solos by several band members.
The Trailblazers Big Band will take the stage after the intermission with several old-time Christmas carols in fresh jazz clothing, along with an original piece, "Saturnian Sleigh Ride," by Shorty Rogers.
Admission to each concert is $5, free to children 14 and under. Tickets are available in the YC Art Gallery, or by calling 776-2031.
