Yavapai Silent Witness pays out $2,500 in rewards

The Yavapai Silent Witness board of directors awarded $2,500 in cash awards to five successful callers at their monthly meeting on Aug. 17.

Law enforcement arrested a suspect in the burglary of an AR-15 rifle from a Camp Verde Marshal's Office patrol vehicle on June 28, said Steve Skurja, program coordinator for Yavapai Silent Witness.

Around noon that day, a Camp Verde Marshal's Office deputy answered a call to help other first responders at an airplane crash along Middle Verde Road, Skurja said. The deputy didn't notice the blued AR-15 Bushmaster with a 30-round loaded magazine attached missing until the scene was secured, Skurja said.

"The weapon has been recovered with all of its ammunition," Skurja said.

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office handled the other four cases, arresting seven people in Camp Verde, Mayer and Verde Valley on 29 felony charges, which were all drug related. Deputies seized $2,600 worth of illegal drugs, an automobile valued at $5,000, $427 in cash and an $850 rifle.
