Adoption drive extended this month

The Yavapai Humane Society (YHS) has extended its "Dog Days of Summer" sale. All dogs and puppies will remain half-price through Aug. 31 because of the large number of animals currently at the shelter.

Humane Society matchmakers are standing by to assist prospective pet owners in finding their perfect match. All animals up for adoption have already been spayed or neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped, which represents a value of more than $300. Puppies, which normally are available for a $120 adoption fee, will now be just $60, and adult dogs between 6 months and 5 years old will go for $47.50 instead of the standard $95. A senior dog, which is any dog 5 or older, will be only $22.50 during the "Dog Days of Summer" sale, and any senior citizen who adopts a senior dog will have their adoption fee waived completely.

Special cat pricing also has been extended through Aug. 31. Cats 2 and younger are only $10 and anyone adopting a cat older than 2 will have their adoption fee waived completely. The Yavapai Humane Society currently has 143 cats and 174 dogs in their care.
