Obituary: Marcella Senaida Thomas
Marcella suffered a tragic and untimely death on Aug. 7, 2010. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Marcella loved to read, watch movies and spend time with family and friends. She gave freely of her time to help family, friends and anyone in need.
Marcella was born in Prescott, Ariz., Sept 28, 1971, to Linda Dera (Baca) and Sisto Sandoval. She spent her childhood in Prescott and attended Lincoln and Washington Elementary Schools, Prescott Junior High, and Prescott High School.
Although Marcella had a troubled teenage and young adulthood, she was able to turn her life around. She worked her way up from a fast food restaurant worker to an Environmental Specialist for YCCHS. Marcella volunteered her time with her daughters' Color Guard at BMHS, Habitat for Humanity and the Prescott Roundup. She also helped other women make better choices for their lives by sharing with them her experience, strength and hope.
Marcella is survived by her children, Douglas Lewallen, Samantha Thomas and Alexis Thomas; her parents, Linda Dera and Sisto Sandoval; her sister Reina (Martin) Dera, and her brothers, Peter Sandoval, James Brooks and Juan Prieto. She is also survived by many nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Juan Vicente; grandmother Rosario Vicente; aunt Gloria Baca; and her uncle Douglas Allen.
There will be a viewing at Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home in Prescott from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, followed by a 7 p.m. Rosary and Celebration of Life at Sacred Heart Church, 150 Fleury Ave., Prescott. The Funeral Mass will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at Sacred Heart Church.
