An early morning accident on Highway 69 left a 55-year-old Prescott Valley motorcyclist in critical condition and backed up rush hour traffic for some time.

Prescott Valley Police spokesman Brandon Bonney said that at about 7:39 a.m., a Prescott Valley woman driving a 2003 red Jeep Liberty slowed for a yellow light at the StoneRidge intersection, when Eric Sanchez, 55, driving a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle, apparently tried to pass her. His motorcycle hit the rear bumper of the Jeep and caused him to crash.

Bonney said Sanchez was not wearing a helmet, and suffered severe head trauma. A helicopter airlifted him to a Phoenix hospital. At last report, Bonney said, Sanchez was in critical condition.

The crash delayed traffic for some time during morning rush hour. Bonney said police are still investigating the accident.
