Bradshaw Mountain High School officials plan orientation day for freshmen

PRESCOTT VALLEY - Bradshaw Mountain High School freshmen will start the new school year earlier than the rest of the student body.

Principal Dan Streeter is asking freshmen to attend school from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 6, as part of the Link Leaders program.

Link Leaders is a transition program that increases freshman success. Junior and senior students act as positive role models, motivators, mentors and teachers while guiding freshmen through the transition to high school.

"As freshman success increases, the benefits to the school culture and climate become apparent. Link Crew schools report having greater connection, increased extracurricular participation, fewer discipline issues and greater pride and spirit," Streeter said.

Friday will be a school day just for freshmen. During the day, the new high school students will receive freshmen orientation, meet their upperclassmen Link Leaders, meet the faculty, receive their class schedules, and be treated to a barbecue.

According to Streeter, the district will run school buses on Friday.

"This will be a great way for freshmen to learn the bus system and meet people in a non-threatening environment," the principal noted.

Additional information about the Link Leaders program is available by calling BMHS at 759-4100.
