David Hartke, left, and Lee Barker of the Prescott Noon Lions Club presented a $5,000 check recently to Fritzi Mevis, coordinator of Prescott-based People Who Care, representing proceeds from the 30th annual Lions pancake breakfast held June 12 adjacent to the Congregational Church at East Gurley and Alarcon Streets. Lions from the quad cities put in some 789 hours of labor for the event. People Who Care is a volunteer caregiving program that offers non-medical assistance to homebound, chronically ill, elderly and/or disabled adults. The program also focuses on providing home safety visits and distributes free safety items such as fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and grab bars to residents.
