Letter: CHCY takes Medicare patients

EDITOR:

We have all heard it - "I can't find a doctor who accepts Medicare."

Last week, a gentleman came into the Prescott location of the Community Health Center of Yavapai (CHCY) and asked if we accept Medicare patients. When we said that we did, he gave a sigh of relief.

Apparently, he had been driving to Phoenix to see a primary care doctor because he could not find one locally. We were able to make him an appointment for later in the week. He said, "You really should tell everyone about the Community Health Center; there are a lot of people just like me out there."

The Community Health Center of Yavapai accepts Medicare, AHCCCS, private insurance and uninsured patients. The uninsured are offered primary care services on a sliding fee scale based on their household income. All locations are staffed with board-certified family practice physicians and nurse practitioners and are open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

CHCY is a federally qualified community health center that has been serving the residents of Yavapai County for the past 10 years. With locations in Prescott, Prescott Valley and Cottonwood, this partnership of Yavapai County Community Health Services and the Prescott Free Clinic Inc. has distinguished itself as a leader in primary medical care. The CHCY can be reached at 583-1000.
