Briefly: Diabetes seminar offers news on latest advances

The Yavapai County Area of the American Diabetes Association invites community members to attend the 24th annual Diabetes Seminar from 9 a.m. to noon in the Rowle P. Simmons Community Center in Prescott.

The seminar, "STOP Diabetes - Don't Let Diabetes Stop You!" will feature speakers and exhibits at the Adult Center at 1280B E. Rosser Street.

Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., and the program begins at 9 a.m. A registration fee of $12 pre-event and $15 at the door includes the program, a morning break, and lunch. To register or for information, call 888-DIABETES, ext. 7093, or visit www. diabetes.org.

"The goal of the seminar is to provide the latest information about diabetes care to people with diabetes, their families and caregivers", said Sue Zager, RN, MSN, APN, Chair of the American Diabetes Association's Community Leadership Board in Yavapai County.

Speakers for this year's seminar include Dr. Andrew Drexler, director of the UCLA Diabetes Center, speaking on the latest advances in diabetes management; Willa Colner, RD, speaking on the glycemic index; Gina Smith, RDH, addressing oral complications from diabetes; and Anne Dennis, presenting Safe at School - a program for school personnel and parents of children with type 1 diabetes.

Participants may visit a number of information and educational exhibits and displays, and enjoy lunch, which will be provided by Giovanni's Pizza and Pasta.
