The lilting voices of Scottish singers will grace the stage during a concert Oct. 2 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Prescott.
The GiveWay band of four sisters, on their first tour in the United States, is a "phenomenal" group, said David McNabb, organizer of the Prescott Celtic Concert Series.
GiveWay comprises Fiona on fiddle, guitar, whistles and backing vocals; Kirsty on accordion and lead vocal; Amy, drums, percussion and backing vocals; and Mairi, keyboards and backing vocals.
The four have been making music from the time they were very young. When she was only 5 years old, Fiona took up the fiddle. Kirsty picked up an accordion at the age of 4 and Amy was 5 when she joined Kirsty playing the same instrument. Mairi has been at the keyboard from the time she was 5.
In 1998, they decided to perform for the public and formed their GiveWay ensemble. Their style is Celtic, traditional and world, and they proclaim that they "have been celebrating 10 years of music with 'attitude.'"
Their audiences have looked upon GiveWay with enthusiastic acclaim. The sisters have won awards at the Scottish music festival, "Celtic Connections" and the BBC 2 Young Folk competitions. They have appeared on many radio and television shows and a series of high profile venues, including the main stage at the Cambridge Folk Festival and Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall.
GiveWay's debut album, "Full Steam Ahead," came out in 2003, and in 2005, they recorded "Inspired," both of which won success around the world. The sisters produced "The Water is Wide" in 2008 and set right to work on another, "Lost in This Song," which came out this past spring.
"They have developed marvelous harmonies," McNabb said of the young musicians. "They have been tearing up the music scene in Scotland, Ireland and throughout Europe."
The GiveWay concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at Celtic Crossings at Prescott Gateway Mall or at the door on the night of the performance. Prices are $15 for adults, $10 for teens and $5 for youth under 13 years. Trinity Presbyterian Church is located at 630 Park Ave. For more information about the GiveWay concert, call 771-1218.
