Oktoberfest at Mountain of Faith
Mountain of Faith Lutheran Church will conduct its 4th Annual Oktoberfest on Oct. 10, 4-7 p.m. at 20135 E Stagecoach Trail in Cordes Lakes.
Enjoy music, German food, door prizes and more. Fun for the whole family - $6/adults, $3/children 12 & under.
Friday Night Fun is back
Each Friday from 6 - 9 p.m. there will be fun and games at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Entry is free, but please bring a finger-food snack to share. There will be coffee and iced tea available, but put a few coins in the cup to pay for the cups, ice, and coffee. Get your card groups together and enjoy the company of your neighbors at the center.
Meals on Wheels fundraiser
Trish Rasmussen has been appointed as the Fundraiser for Meals on Wheels, so when she visits your organization, please help.
Meals on Wheels feeds shut-ins from Cordes Lakes to Dewey. The name has changed, but the staff of volunteers and those in need remains the same.
Cordes Lakes Library takes flu precautions
The Cordes Lakes Library requests that all patrons wash their hands before coming to the library, and then use the hand wipes available at the door. They hope to replace the hand wipes with an easier-to-use dispenser.
Librarians also are wiping down each returned book with the sanitizers prior to replacing them on the shelves.
Cordes Lakes Library considers change in hours, dates
Some people have requested different days and hours for the library, so a survey sheet is available at the library for patrons. Please fill out the survey of which days and hours are best for you. Return the survey sheet to the library before Sept. 30, either to the librarian or drop it in the book return box outside. All surveys will be tallied and a determination if changes should be made to accommodate the most library users.
Friday movie Sept. 25 at library
Cordes Lakes Library movie for the last Friday of the month, Sept. 25, at 4 p.m. is Inkheart and is recommended for audiences of 8 years of age and older.
Reaching Out in Love Ministry
Reaching Out in Love Ministry is a helping hand to those in need of clothing, shoes, and other items, at no charge. If you would like to help, stop in with your donation of cash or gently used clothing.
Love Ministry will be open on Sept. 25 and 26. They are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and are located at 14720 S. Stagecoach Trail in Cordes Junction in the mobile at the Extra Self Storage. Please stop by if you need help or want to donate gently used items or money for rent and utilities.
Great Potato event canceled this year
The Great Potato has been canceled for this year. Many of our fabulous cooks are unable to be there to make their magic with food; therefore, the Tuesday Club has canceled the October 19 Great Potato.
Cordes Lakes Food programs
There are four food programs in Cordes Lakes. Sept. 9 is the Value Club which also has the new entree program, payable at the Library prior to Sept. 4.
The 60-plus program (age and income restricted) is also on Sept. 9, the second Wednesday. Commodities are on Sept. 16, the third Wednesday, with produce on the fourth Thursday, Sept. 24.
Cordes Lakes Daze in planning stage
Cordes Lakes Daze will be Oct. 31 and will start with a parade. If you or your organization would like to be in the parade, please contact Pat Williamson at 632-8965. Since the parade covers quite a distance and moves quickly, walking groups are not recommended. Halloween is the theme.
Cordes Exercise class
The Exercise Class is on Wednesday and Friday at 8 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Contact Kimila at 713-3782 for more information.
TOPS Club hours changing
TOPS hours are changing. TOPS will follow the Excercise class on Friday at 9:15 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Now you can provide twice the effort on the same day to achieve your goals.
Make a Difference Day in Cordes Lakes
Make a Difference Day on Oct. 24 is a national event with communities getting together to work on a project to make a difference in their community.
The Cordes Lakes project will be the baseball field. Robbe Bressler is heading up this project and working with other communities, Little Leagues, etc. to gather information. Donations of labor or money are welcome. Contact Robbe at 632-7232 with your donations.
Sign up for possible CPR/First Aid class
So far, there has not been enough response to meet the minimum for a CPR/First Aid Class. If you are interested contact Robbe Bressler at 632-723 by Sept. 25. If the minimum number of people have not shown interest, there will not be a class.
Hiking Club meets first Tuesday
Cordes Lakes Hiking Club meets the first Tuesday of the month at the Cordes Lakes Community Center, 16357 S. Cordes Lakes Drive, at 10 a.m. The next hike is Oct. 6. Carpools will drive from the Center to the hike location. Be sure to bring a sack lunch with you.
No registration necessary, just meet in the parking lot.
Each month a person volunteers to be the leader for the next hike. They decide on where to go, so if you have a favorite place, join the group and volunteer to lead.

Drop off brush on third Saturdays
Brush Yard will reopen on the third Saturday of each month. Remember, this is NOT a trash dump, just burnable brush. This is for Cordes Lakes residents only, and you will be asked for your name and address, as a count of users is being kept.
If you are unable to make it on the available day and hours, contact Ron Giguere at 632-7552 to make an appointment to drop off your brush.
Grand Opening of new Meals on Wheels
The Grand Opening of the Mayer Area Meals on Wheels will be Friday, Sept. 25. Lunch will be a Roast Beef Dinner with all the trimmings for $5. The salad bar will be served at 11:30 a.m. and dinner at 12 noon. Supervisor Tom Thurman will be with us to say a few words along with representatives from NACOG.
Artist Harvey Quade has donated an original oil painting, which will be auctioned off. There will also be raffles for other prizes. The proceeds will supporrt Mayer Area Meals on Wheels. Please support this very needy program and enjoy a great lunch!

Meals on Wheels 'Koffee Klatch'
Mayer Area Meals on Wheels will hold their first ever "Koffee Klatch" on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. Sit down, enjoy a cup of coffee and a roll and have someone to talk with. This new program may take place several times each week. We all enjoy conversation - come help us make it succeed!
Mayer Elders Pork Rib Dinner
Saturday, Sept. 26, starting at 4:30 p.m. will be the Mayer Elder's Club Pork Rib Dinner. President Joe Mish will do his usual great job of cooking the ribs with help from Hollis Johnson. We'll make sure there is plenty of food so we don't run out. The price is $7 for adults and $4 for children. Come enjoy the homemade desserts after a great dinner!
Learn about chronic diseases
The Mayer Elders Center will present information on new classes for those who have chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, COPD, arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic pain or other ongoing health problems.
The informational meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 23, 12:30 p.m., The free classes will start with with an assessment meeting on Friday, Oct. 9. The classes will start Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 9-11:30. Chicken ala King is on the lunch menu that day.
St. Vincent de Paul bag sale
St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop on Highway 69, next to the Harley Davidson Store, is having a bag sale on Oct. 1 and 2. You pay $2 for a bag and anything you fit into the bag is yours. Just remember, it must fit INTO the bag. On October 6 they will be displaying their fall and winter clothing, so drop in to add to your fall/winter wardrobe.

The Mayer Elder's Club Membership Meeting will take place on Thursday, Sept. 24, 12:30 p.m. Please come as we need a quorum for some very important business.

Harvest Moon Dinner and Dance
A Harvest Moon Dinner and Dance fundraiser takes place on Oct. 3. to benefit High Desert Helpers. Italian Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Dance to the music of Route 66 from 7-10 p.m.
The event will include door prizes, a raffle and silent auction. Adults $10, Kids 12 and under $5.

The Black Canyon City Meals on Wheels program has suspended its craft night until further notice.
Boots 'n Spurs Saddle Club events
Boots n' Spurs Saddle Club meets the third Thursday, at 6 p.m. at the Poland Junction, Rancho Vista Equine Center, Hwy. 69, Mile Post #275. Practice riding every Thursday at the arena 4 p.m. to dark. Club membership is $7 per person per year.
Upcoming Gymkhanas are Saturday, Oct. 3, 4 p.m. sign in. Event starts at 5 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 24, 3 p.m. sign in. Event starts at 4 p.m. Cost is $5 per person. All ages welcome. The club will award prizes.

Charity rodeo and carnival in Cave Creek
Wayne Wilson Children's Charity Rodeo and Carnival will take place on Oct. 9-11. Rodeo events include Bareback Riding, Saddle Bronc, Bull Riding, Barrel Racing, Calf Roping, Team Roping, Bulldogging.
Special Events include carnival rides, train rides, carnival games, celebrity autographs, and raffles.
Mutton Bustin', Stick Horse Race, Greased Pig Race and more are available for the kids.
Entry fee is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12, and 5 and under are free. Parking fee is $3 per car or $1 with two or more cans of food to benefit the Foothills Foodbank.
