Les Stukenberg/The Daily Courier<p> Central Yavapai Fire Chief Mike Parrish, second from left, huddles with firefighters after they quickly extinguished a house fire in the 2000 block of Pony Way in Dewey-Humboldt on Tuesday afternoon.

An electrical fire that started in a ceiling fan and spread to the attic of a home off Pony Way in Dewey-Humboldt early Tuesday afternoon caused about $75,000 in damages, but did not render the residence a complete loss.

Central Yavapai Fire District spokesman Charlie Cook said the blaze began at about 1:15 p.m. inside the 2,300-square-foot home located in a low-density neighborhood east of Foothill Drive and south of Ridge Way in Dewey.

"There was most likely a malfunction of the ceiling fan or an electrical short in the wiring," Cook said. "No other structures were affected and no one was injured."

The married couple that lives in the house was home at the time of the blaze but got out safely.

"They first saw a little bit of smoke come out of a ceiling fan and then a light out of an outlet for the ceiling fan," Cook said. "A neighbor possibly called in saying they saw flames coming out of the end of the attic."

Fire crews needed just 20 minutes to control the blaze. Cook said Central Yavapai Fire District sent four engines, two water tenders and a support vehicle to the scene.

The couple might not be able to return to the home for four to five weeks until it is repaired, Cook added.

"Most of the belongings inside were protected by the firefighters through the salvage operations," Cook said. "They had to pull a lot of ceiling in the house to chase the fire through the attic to make sure it was all out."
