A motorcyclist struck by a car changing lanes on Highway 69 Thursday died at 6 p.m. at Flagstaff Medical Center, said Sgt. Art Askew, spokesman for the Prescott Valley Police Department.
Phillip Siebenthaler, 69, of Prescott Valley, suffered severe head trauma from the collision with the car driven by Thomas Thibodeau, 24, of Prescott Valley, on eastbound Highway 69 near Lake Valley Road at 2:58 p.m. on Thursday.
Askew said the Prescott Valley Police Department Traffic Division's investigation into the collision continues, and at this point drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision. No charges would be filed against the motorcyclist, Askew said.
"The collision is still under investigation, as of now," Askew said. "Right now, it doesn't look like any criminal charges will be filed against the driver."
Thibodeau told police the motorcycle was in his blind spot, Askew said. Police reports said Siebenthaler was not wearing a helmet.
An ambulance took Siebenthaler to Yavapai Regional Medical Center East, where a helicopter immediately airlifted him to Flagstaff Medical Center with life threatening injuries.
The Prescott Valley Police Traffic Division closed the highway for three hours while they investigated the collision. Police asked people to avoid driving on Highway 69 eastbound from Prescott East Highway to Glassford Hill Road after the collision and to take a detour along the frontage road or use Sunset/Florentine Road.
