Legion Post #122 changes hours

American Legion Post #122 has changed their meeting times. Meetings will now be held on the third Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m. in the Cordes Lakes Community Center.

Tuesday Club plans Thanksgiving Dinner

On Saturday, Nov. 21, the Tuesday Club will host a Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and all the trimmings. Doors open at 5 p.m. Cost is $7 per person, $3.50 for children under 12.

Cordes Lakes Craft Fair Dec. 5

A Craft Fair will take place on Dec. 5. Anice Grant is in charge. Contact her at 632-7391. Booth rental is $20 for indoor and $15 for outdoor spaces. Fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature lovely crafts and home baked goodies. There will be breakfast burritos, then hot dogs and potato salad from the kitchen for sale. This is a perfect place to pick up Christmas gifts and stocking stuffers. Stop by at 16357 S. Cordes Lakes Drive. Crafters also can get with others for helpful hints and friendly conversation.

Meet and Greet Pie and Coffee Sale

Friends of the Library will team up with the Tuesday Club for a Meet and Greet pie and coffee sale on Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Slices of pie will be available for $3. Whole specialty pies will sell for $10 and are worth every penny. There is NO pre-ordering, so it is a first-come, first served basis, and the doors WILL NOT open until 5 p.m. If you would like to donate a pie for this event, contact Trish Rasmussen at 632-5966.

Reaching Out in Love Ministry

Reaching Out in Love Ministry offers a helping hand to those in need of clothing, shoes, and other items, at no charge. If you would like to help, stop in with your donation of cash or gently used clothing.

Love Ministry will be open on Nov. 20 and 21. They are open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and are located at 14720 S. Stagecoach Trail in Cordes Junction in the mobile at the Extra Self Storage.

Plans underway for Light Parade

Plans for Santa and the Electric Parade are underway for Dec. 19. There will be cookies with Santa and music with sing-alongs.

If you or your organization would like to be in the parade, please contact Pat Williamson at 632-8965. Since it is quite a distance and moves quickly, we recommend no walking groups.

Cordes Lakes Food programs

There are four food programs in Cordes Lakes. Value Club is the second Wednesday and is payable at the Library the previous Friday. The 60-plus program (age and income restricted) is also on the second Wednesday. Commodities are on the third Wednesday, with produce on the fourth Thursday.

Friday Night Fun

Each Friday from 6 - 9 p.m. lots of fun and games take place at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Entry is free, but please bring a finger-food snack to share. Coffee and iced tea are available, but please put a few coins in the cup to pay for the cups, ice and coffee. Get your card groups together and enjoy the company of your neighbors at the center.

Cordes Lakes Library takes flu precautions

The Cordes Lakes Library requests that all patrons wash their hands before coming to the library, and then use the hand wipes available at the door.

Cordes Exercise class

The Exercise Class is on Wednesday and Friday at 8 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Call Kimila, 713-3782, for information.

TOPS Club hours

TOPS will follow the exercise class on Fridays at 9:15 a.m. at the Cordes Lakes Community Center. Now you can make twice the effort on the same day to achieve your goals.

Hiking Club meets first Tuesday

Cordes Lakes Hiking Club meets the first Tuesday of the month at the Cordes Lakes Community Center, 16357 S. Cordes Lakes Drive, at 10 a.m.

Contact Bill Slankard 632-9473 for the location of the next hike. Carpools will drive from the Center to the hike location. No registration necessary, just meet in the parking lot.

Drop off brush on third Saturdays

Brush Yard, located on Fremont (west of Brahma and east of Cordes Lakes Drive) will be open on the third Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Next date is November 21.

Remember, this is NOT a trash dump, just burnable brush. This is IN Cordes Lakes for Cordes Lakes residents only, and you will be asked for your name and address, as a count of users is being kept. If you are unable to make it on the available day and hours, contact Ron Giguere at 632-7552 to make an appointment to drop off your brush.

Mayer area

Mayer Rent a Table and Bake Sale

A Rent-A-Table and Bake Sale event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Old Mercantile Building across from the Post Office. Tables will rent for $10 each. Call Brenda (632-4901) or Mary (632-7511)to reserve your table. There will be all sorts of must-have things for sale at the Rent-A-Tables plus a tantalizing assortment of delicious home baked goods. Lunch special features sloppy joes, chips and a drink for $3.

Community Thanksgiving dinner

On Wednesday, Nov. 25, Springs Church is providing Thanksgiving dinner to all residents in the Spring Valley, Cordes and Mayer areas. The dinner will held at the Mayer High School and serving will begin at 4:30 p.m. and end at 7:30 p.m. We welcome you to come and enjoy turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, pumpkin pie and a beverage.

Library sponsors fiction contest

Mayer Public Library is sponsoring a Holiday Fiction Contest for school-age kids. Original holiday stories should be submitted at the Mayer Public Library by Dec. 1. Winners of prizes will be announced on Dec. 15. 

All stories must be original and must be about one of the fall/winter holidays. For more information call Mayer Public Library at 632-7370.

Upcoming Mayer Elders Club events

 Thursday, Nov. 19, a meeting will be held regarding issues in our country.  Should you like to voice your opinion, please join us at 1 p.m. at the Mayer Senior Center for a discussion.  All information received will be e-mailed to Senator Kyl.   Our first meeting with Sharon Varga of the Senator's office brought out many issues rural America is having with the new health care bill and immigration.  Our legislators need to know how we feel - this may be a way to do it.  We'll have the coffee pot on!

On Wednesday, Nov. 25, the Mayer Area Meals on Wheels will serve the annual Thanksgiving Dinner starting at 11:30 a.m.  The cost is $5 for turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, Virginia's sweet potato casserole, and all the rest of the trimmings, ending with pumpkin pie. 

Our communities have helped us by donating most of the food. Please join us for some fun as Larry Canaday auctions theme baskets including a baby basket (have a new baby coming to your family?), Christmas basket, bathroom basket, Italian basket (including the wine and homemade sauce), a family games basket, a man's bike, and a Pet Portrait sitting by Heidi Dahms Foster, along with some other surprises. There will be raffles and giveaway prizes too!  We will have music for your dining pleasure.  We are requesting reservations since we can only seat 100.  If you'd like to join us, please call 632-7511 or sign our reservation sheet when you are in the Center. 

The Mayer Senior Center will be closed Friday, Nov. 27.  Homebound will be receiving frozen meals for Thursday (Thanksgiving Day) and Friday, Nov. 27.  All homebound clients will be receiving the hot Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 25.

Poland Junction

Boots 'n Spurs Saddle Club events

Boots n' Spurs Saddle Club meets the third Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Poland Junction, Rancho Vista Equine Center, Hwy. 69, Mile Post #275. Practice riding every Thursday at the arena 3 p.m. to dark. Club membership is $7 per person per year. 

The club will host a Gymkhana on Saturday, Nov. 14, starting at noon. Cost is $5 and club membership $7 per year per person. The club will award prizes.

Hoof Care for your Horse will take place Thursday Nov. 19, 4 p.m. followed by a club meeting at 5 p.m. Location is Rancho Vista Equine Center.

Spring Valley

Lighting Contest

The Spring Valley Property Owners Association will conduct their community-wide Christmas Lighting Contest on Dec. 3, starting at 6 p.m. There will be a $25 prize for the winners in six categories: Most Humorous, Most Spiritual, Most Animated, Most Lights, Best Roof Top Display and Best Use Of Existing Landscape.
