Chaparral MusicFest 2009

The Chaparral MusicFest will celebrate its third season from June 10-20 in Prescott. The centerpiece of the festival is the New Music Arizona Concert at 3 p.m. on June 14 at the Historic Elks Opera House.

Members of the Phoenix Symphony, Flagstaff Symphony, Arizona Opera Orchestra, and other stellar musicians from Prescott and around the state will perform fresh works by four Arizona composers plus the muses and music that inspired them.

Tickets are $17 each or $30 for two, and $5 for children age 18 and under. Tickets are available at the Hassayampa Inn, Raskin's Jewelry, Prescott Chamber of Commerce or at

In addition to the New Music Arizona Concert, Chaparral MusicFest 2009 includes the following events:

• June 5: "Sell Out the Elks" part at the Wild Iris Coffee House is a kick off event with discount tickets available.

• June 10-12: String Academy at Trinity Presbyterian; students learn music from classical to mariachi styles with Quartet Sabaku. Call 777-8663.

• June 10, 7-8 p.m.: Sabaku Quartet Recital at Trinity Presbyterian; classics with a twist.

• June 12, 6 p.m.: Public Celebration Concert at Trinity Presbyterian; students perform with Quartet Sabaku.

• June 13, 10 a.m.: Community Drum Circle; Prescott Public Library Lawn. Bring your instrument or use one of ours.

• June 13, 1 p.m.: Woodwind Master Class at Trinity Presbyterian; a public coaching session with Phoenix Symphony musicians.

• June 14, 3 p.m.: New Music Arizona Concert.

• June 14, 8 p.m.: Flamenco Sensation at Elks Opera House featuring the duo of Chris & Lean Jácome. Tickets available at Hassayampa Inn, Raskin's Jewelry, Prescott Chamber of Commerce or at

• June 15-19: Percussion Academy at Trinity Presbyterian; drum set, African and Latin American percussion from Sticks and Tones and other drum masters; 777-8663.

• June 19, 6 p.m.: Public Celebration Concert at Trinity Presbyterian by the percussion academy students with Sticks and Tones.

•June 20, TBA: The Final Hurrah at the Raven Café.
