Jan Brown never imagined he'd be working at the Prescott Brewing Company for a decade when he hired on just over 10 years ago.

Owners John and Roxane Nielsen were looking for a new beer brewer when Brown offered to take the job in February 1999.

"I was just glad to be able to do it," he said.

Now Brown is still around to help celebrate the Prescott Brewing Company's crystal anniversary.

"I enjoy what I do so that makes a difference," he said. "I think (the Nielsens are) good business people, and they are fair in the way they do business. They provide you with an environment to succeed if that's what you want to do."

John and Roxane opened the Prescott Brewing Company in March 1994, offering four different beers.

These days, they offer eight to 12 beers on tap and John says he has recipes for 52 different beers.

John estimates customers consumed roughly 3.4 million pints over the years.

The beer is available at Antelope Hills, StoneRidge and Prescott County Club golf courses as well as in cans at the restaurant and local liquor stores, according to John.

John sees this as a special anniversary.

"This represents a generation and a milestone in the restaurant industry," he said.

While John attributes their longevity to all-around consistency, Roxane says her employees are also a key part of the accomplishment.

"Most importantly, it's the commitment from our staff over the years and our commitment to our community," she said.

Roxane says she wants to enhance their brand recognition throughout the state and beyond.

John agrees.

"If you're not growing, you're going backwards," he said.

The Prescott Brewing Company is in the Bashford Court building at 130 W. Gurley

Street and opens at 11 a.m. daily.

The kitchen closes at 10 p.m. weekdays and 11 p.m. weekends.
