The Prescott Gem and Mineral Club will conduct its 6th annual Show & Sale at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Activity Center, 3700 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 31, and on Saturday, Aug. 1, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday Aug. 2.
The event is open to the public with free parking. Admission is $2 for adults and includes a free raffle ticket. Organizers will announce door prizes throughout the day. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult.
Items for sale at the show range from rough rock to finished jewelry and just about everything in between, organizers say.
Several display cases will show off club members' skills, and club members will be available to answer questions about club activities, including field trips.
One of the more popular displays is the "leaverite mine." Here, children can press a button, which rings a bell that "wakes up the miner," who then drives a toy truck out through a mountain mineshaft.
A "treasure" or polished stone will be in the bed of the truck. Children will be able to keep the stones and ask club members to identify it. Demonstrations such as knapping (making stone arrowheads and knives), inlay techniques and beading will also be highlights of the event.
