PV council approves fee hikes for pool, other recreational uses

PRESCOTT VALLEY - People immediately will pay more for using the swimming pool, ball fields, meeting rooms and other recreational amenities.

The Town Council voted 6-0 Thursday for a resolution that established a new fee schedule that the Parks and Recreation Commission had prepared. Councilwoman Lora Lee Nye was absent.

The new schedule goes into effect immediately. However, Parks and Recreation Director Brian Witty said the commission had recommended not increasing the fees until the new season starts for the Mountain Valley Splash pool at Mountain Valley Park and other seasonal amenities.

Daily passes for the swimming pool would increase by 25 cents for children and adults, and 50 cents for seniors and families with five or more people. The new rates will be 75 cents for children 5 and under, $1.75 for youths 6 to 17, $2.75 for adults 18 to 59, $2 for seniors 60 and older and $9.50 for families of five or more people.

The new rates follow "an exhausting process" in which the commission compared the fee schedule with other jurisdictions, Witty told the council. The council previously increased the fee schedule in October 2003.

Referring to the new schedule, Mayor Harvey Skoog noted the athletic field rental rates for soccer and football games would increase 275 percent, from $8 to $30 per game.

No representatives of athletic groups or other organizations spoke out at the council meeting, which lasted about an hour.
