Obituary: Nona Lea Winn

Mrs. Winn

Mrs. Winn

Nona Winn, 78, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away into eternal sleep on Jan. 5, 2009.

Nona was born in Oklahoma on Oct. 10, 1930 to Hume and Florence White. They all moved to California during the great depression and worked in the fields and orchards of the San Joaquin Valley.

When Nona was a youth, she loved to dance the swing and the jitterbug. Her bother James said she was the best and prettiest dancer on the floor. She was married in 1948 and had three children, David, Monty and Susan. Mom was a homemaker and a fantastic cook. She loved to read to us from the bible when we were young.

All the grandchildren loved to come to grandma's house. She always had a cookie for them. The cookies were kept in a big, white cookie jar in the shape of a goose on the top of the refrigerator. Whenever the grandkids arrived for a visit they would say, "Can we have a cookie from the Goose, Granny." After awhile the kids all called her "Granny Goose." I think we even called her that, too.

Nona was preceded in death by her husband, Budd L. Winn; grandson Robert G. Winn; one brother; and five of her sisters. Mom, (Granny Goose), you will be missed. We love you. Until we meet again.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Stepping Stones, 3343 N. Windsong, Suite 9, Prescott Valley, AZ 86314.
