Obituary: Judith Carolyn Pike

Judith Carolyn Pike, 79, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and dear friend passed on from us on Dec. 31, 2008 at the Family Hospice Inpatient Care facility in Prescott.

Judith was born on Dec. 24, 1929. She was the daughter of Sidney and Gladys Wise. Judith graduated high school in Phoenix and then attended Whittier College in California where she earned a B.F.A. in Biology. She met Kenneth L. Pike at Whittier and they were married in Phoenix on Sept. 1, 1951. Judith worked towards a fellowship at Claremont College, California in Botany. She later attended USC where she earned a Masters of Library Science. She volunteered as a "Friends of the Library" for the library in San Bernardino, Calif. and in Prescott, Ariz. for many years. She was also a facilitator at the Yavapai College Learning Institute.

Judith loved books and was a member of The International Wizard of OZ Club. She organized and helped form the first Winkie OZ Conference in 1964 in California. Judith was a gifted writer. She co-authored with W. Hollister a charming children's fantasy entitled "The Moons of Meer," published in 1969.

Judith was a loving wife and mother and she was an inspiration to her family. She is survived by her loving husband of over 57 years, Kenneth L. Pike; children, Christopher and Jennifer Pike; grandchild Neka Pike and brother Stephen Wise.
