Child of the Week: Seth - Feb. 27
Seth is six years old and lives with his grandmother - it's just the two of them. His favorite school subject is math, and his least favorite is spelling. Seth wants to be a policeman when he grows up. How will he get from here to there, when so many obstacles will obstruct his path? How will he learn to avoid the trouble and seek the right way?
Seth and his grandmother spend a great deal of time together, often playing indoor games, doing crafts, drawing pictures, reading, cooking, or watching movies. Seth's favorite toy is his Battlestar Galactica spaceship. Another of his favorite pastimes is constructing things with his wood hammer, nails, nuts and bolts toy. His favorite movie is "The Incredibles," and his favorite book is "Calvin and Hobbes."
Seth's grandmother describes him as a very caring child who has strong character and a great memory. He is smart and loves all types of sports and outdoor activities, like fishing, basketball and football. Although he likes most sports, Seth's favorites are swimming and playing soccer. He very much wants to learn more about guns and would like his Big to show him how to target shoot. We'd all like it if he learned responsible and safe handling when he is old enough!
Seth Grandma says Seth is "all boy." Grandma is doing a great job of helping Seth grow up to be a good person; but the odds are against her - and him. How can Seth learn what it means to be a good man without one to watch? There aren't any men in Seth's life to teach him the traditions that matter. There is no one for Seth to watch, to look up to. Seth doesn't need someone to make a difference - Seth needs someone to BE the difference.
Seth needs you. He needs you to stop assuming someone else will step up, stop assuming you're too busy, and start dialing the phone. Call Big Brothers Big Sisters right now at 778-5135 and start being the change our community needs!
