Several times during the semester, this pretty girl sat next to me in class during my junior year at Northern Arizona University. I was scared to talk to her, thinking she was out of my league. Also, I kept forgetting her name. Thinking I would not see her after the last day of class made me sad.
Luckily, a fellow student invited the class to his house for a social gathering to celebrate the end of school. Not knowing who would be there didn't deter me from going. I got there and saw lots of new faces and only a couple I recognized. I turned the corner and there she was... the one I wanted to talk to.
Immediately I went over and she said "Dennis, is that you?" I said "Yes, it's me, and I'm sorry, I forgot your name." "Naresa," she said. "Remember sitting next to me in class?" "I do but I don't think we talked."
Well, we talked the rest of the night and exchanged phone numbers. A few days passed and we made our first of many dates in Flagstaff. I knew she was the one... I just had that feeling.
So about a year after dating, I planned a ski day in Flagstaff. It happened to be Valentine's Day 1997. While riding the Agassiz Lift to the top, I reached into my pocket and removed a little black box and opened it, showing her the ring, and asked, "Will you marry me?"
She said "YES!"
I was so happy to hear that!
We've been happily married for 10 years.
