Raymond G. Loome

Raymond G. Loome, 83, of Prescott, Ariz., passed away Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness and surgery. Ray was the loving son of the late Thomas J. Loome and Elizabeth O'Brien.

Prior to World War II Ray attended Chicago University. He enlisted in the Navy and saw action in the South Pacific. After his honorable discharge Ray moved to Tucson, Ariz., and went to U of A. He received a degree in electrical engineering in 1950. It was in that year that he married his wife of 58 years, Joan Treiber.

In 1951 Ray moved from San Francisco to join Sperry Gyroscope Co. of Long Island, N.Y. At this time he attended Adelphi College and received a Masters degree in applied mathematics. When Sperry opened a plant in Phoenix Ray transferred and remained with the company in many positions until his retirement in 1989. At that time he was vice president and general manager for the Defense Division in Albuquerque, N.M. Prescott, Ariz. was home since 1994.

Ray was preceded in death by his mother, father and a brother, Eugene.

He leaves his wife Joan; daughter Katherine; son Stephen; and two grandsons, Adam and Andrew. He also leaves two sisters and one brother; numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

He enjoyed golf, reading and woodworking, and was active in the Ranch of Prescott Homeowners Association. Ray was also a member of the Perpetual Adoration group at Sacred Heart.

A funeral mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Sacred Heart Church, 150 Fleury, Prescott. Please make any donations or gifts to Sacred Heart School.
