Duane "Dewey" and Rosemarie "Mike" Hein were married Dec. 18, 1959 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Woodland, Wisconsin, and are celebrating their "50th" anniversary. They say their pets are their children.

They have known one another since Rosemarie was 12 and Duane was 16, when Duane joined the Air Force with Rosemarie's brothers. They met again when she was 16 and he was 20 and dated off and on until Dec. 1958. He was in Iceland for a year, and when he returned, they became engaged on Dec. 2 and were married on the 18th.

The marriage was kept a secret and their friends were all surprised when they crashed a going-away party for Duane and another military friend that were leaving for their next duty stations. Duane retired after 20 years in the military, and also from Contel of California, now known as Verizon. Rose retired from Contel and the Town of Chino Valley. They lived in Delaware, Okinawa, Las Vegas, Japan and Southern California..

The Heinses moved to Chino Valley in Dec. 1995 and plan to celebrate with train trips next year and a trip back east.
