Police say teen admitted to 200 vehicle burglaries

Prescott Valley police arrested two teenagers in connection with dozens of Quailwood vehicle burglaries.

Both suspects are 16-year-old boys from Prescott Valley, said Sgt. Brandon Bonney, public information officer for Prescott Valley Police.

One teen allegedly committed the burglaries and the other allegedly held some of the stolen property for him, Bonney said.

Prescott Valley Police charged the primary suspect with burglary, unlawful use of means of transportation, possession of stolen property, theft of a firearm, trafficking in stolen property, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police charged the other suspect with possession of stolen property.

The primary suspect was booked into juvenile detention, and the other suspect was charged then released to his parents, said Sgt. Art Askew of the Prescott Valley Police Department.

The suspects entered unlocked vehicles and took iPods, GPS devices, cigarettes, cell phones, money and firearms, Bonney said.

The burglaries started near the end of July and continued until early November.

Bonney said patrols in the neighborhood, detectives' investigation and help from concerned citizens led police to the suspects.

The primary suspect admitted to committing in excess of 200 burglaries in the Quailwood area, Bonney said.

"A lot of people don't know they were burglarized," Bonney said. "They might think they left something in their car. They might think they lost or misplaced it somewhere else."

Prescott Valley police is sending letters to victims and potential victims in the neighborhood to let them know about a community meeting to be held soon, Bonney said. Victims can identify their property at the meeting and file a police report if they haven't already, he said.
