Carolyn Jean Kendel Agan

Carolyn Jean Kendel Agan, 71, passed away at her home in Prescott Country Club on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009. She was born to John Kendel and Lucille Rankin Kendel on Oct. 22, 1937, in Los Angeles, Calif.

She is survived by her husband of almost 51 years, John Agan; and children in Tucson Christa (Jim) Ruhman, Tim (Cristi) Agan, Steve (Belinda) Agan and Laura (Karl) Dykstra of Bend, Ore. In addition, she leaves five grandchildren, Tanner Agan, Allison Agan, Elizabeth Agan and Kate Agan, all of Tucson, and Katy Dykstra of Bend. She is also survived by a sister, Linda (Rob) Haupt, of Palmdale, Calif. Preceding her in death are her parents and brothers Doug and Roger.

She worked for the YMCA for 27 years, starting out as an administrative assistant at the Los Angeles YMCA, and finished her career as an associate director of a branch of the Y in Tucson. She was also a 32-year member of the of P.E.O. Sisterhood, most recently, Chapter EC in Dewey.

A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at the Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 W. Gurley St., Prescott. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be given in her memory to the Program for Continuing Education, P.E.O., c/o Jan Billings/ASC Treasurer, 5830 McKellips Road, #70, Mesa, AZ 85215, or to the Northwest YMCA of Southern Arizona, c/o Cristi Agan, 2337 W. Catalina View Dr., Tucson, AZ 85742, with designation for the "Carolyn Agan Youth Program Fund."

The family would also like to thank those who assisted them with compassion and understanding: the firefighters and paramedics from stations 53 and 54 from the Central Yavapai Fire District, LifeLine Ambulance, the Yavapai Sheriff's Deputy, Yavapai Regional Medical Center, East, the Trauma Intervention Program (TIPS), and the Arizona Wakelin Bradshaw Chapel in Prescott Valley.
