The D'Acuntos

Daniel D'Acunto, born Feb. 4, 1919, passed away on Aug. 6, 2009, in Scottsdale, Ariz.

He was an exceptional husband, father, brother and grandfather, and loved by many. He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he went to Catholic school, and during his high school years worked as a tailor to support his mother and sisters. When WWII started he immediately went into the USN, starting his first tour of duty by being involved with the Normandy Invasion, retiring 30 years later as a Master Chief Petty Officer. He settled in Prescott, Ariz., in 1977.

Daniel was preceded in his passing by his wife of 50 years, Ronnie D'Acunto, in 2002. He is survived by his daughter Kathleen Koneski (Joseph) of Phoenix, Ariz.; son Ray Bernardi (Janice) of Prescott, Ariz.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many friends.

He enjoyed watching the Diamondbacks baseball, golf, listening to classical music, an occasional trip to the racetrack and watching old movies of the '30s and '40s. He also enjoyed his monthly breakfast meetings with some old-time LST sailors.

A service took place on Monday, Aug. 17, 2009, at the National Memorial Cemetery in Cave Creek, Ariz. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the Hospice of Arizona, 7100 E. Mescal St., Scottsdale, AZ 85254.
