Obituary: Virginia (Ginny) L. Hathaway

Virginia (Ginny) L. Hathaway died on July 23, 2009, in Mount Vernon, Wash. She was born on May 21, 1922, in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of Glendora Hamlin Hicks and Roy L. Hicks.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Lincoln L. Hathaway; son Glenn Hathaway; and sister Betty A. Macgregor.

She is survived by her children, Joel Hathaway, Anne H. Bain and Bill Hathaway; and grandchildren Gilbert Hathaway, Todd Hathaway, Aaron Hathaway, Ross Hathaway, Lincoln Farabee, Adam Farabee, Amber Hill, Clint Hathaway, Ginell Costa, Katy Bercume, Elaine Chandler, Sherry Mortensen and Edward Bain. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren.

Virginia and Lincoln were married in Nogales, Ariz., in 1940 and after WWII moved to a ranch in the Huachuca Mountains in southern Arizona where they remained for 13 years. In the subsequent years they moved to many different places, including California, Oregon and Costa Rica, and enjoyed a diversity of environments and cultures. They moved to Chino Valley, Ariz., in 1977, and during these years Virginia was a volunteer at the Prescott Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Prescott Folk Dance Group.

Virginia was an inspiration to those who knew her with her ready smile and zest for life. She enjoyed travel, music and dancing. She was always ready for a new adventure and could turn a mishap into a joyful event with her positive attitude. She will be greatly missed and leaves embedded strength in those whose lives she touched.

A gravesite memorial service will be 11 a.m. Aug. 30, 2009, at the Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott, Ariz.
