Anniversary: Wants celebrate 50th
Hank and Kathryn Want, long-time residents of Cordes Lakes, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 25 in Phoenix at the West Gateway Bible Church.
Family and friends from far and near gathered to join in the celebration, with Hank's brother and sister-in-law and their daughter coming from California, and Kathryn's brother and sister-in-law coming all the way from Missouri.
Since Hank and Kathryn are avid NASCAR fans, having missed very few races since their second year, usually with seats in the inner oval, and since NASCAR also had their 50th anniversary this year, Grandson Billy arranged for T-shirts and the matching cake to be decorated accordingly. Billy also took the pictures accompanying this article. One of the Wants' favorite drivers, Ricky Craven, had been driving car #25, but permanently changed it to #50 in honor of the anniversaries.
Hank and Kathryn have been active members of the Cordes Lakes community since 1974. They have been members of the School Board, Fire Board, church group Bible study, Eucharistic ministry and Lector, foster parents, and organizers of CLIBs (Cordes Lakes Improvement Boosters), which sponsored teen dances and built the community basketball court and fence.
They have three children, seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Hank is retired from the U.S.A.F. after 20 years of service, and also from the U.S. Postal Service after 23 years there. Hank and Kathryn at the ages of 74 and 81 now lead a "quieter" life, visiting their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, attending NASCAR races, and elk hunting!
